Two Weeks Left!

It's finally the end of the term, officially two weeks left! Now testings are over, cultural group practices are going well and nearly done and dusted. It's going to be extremely hard to say 'goodbye' to this school. For all the eight years I've been at this school just thinking about having two weeks left makes me not want to leave. Sometimes I wish I could start over- start in Room 1 then travel all the way up to Room 12 again - just to experience it all for one last time! I'm sure going to miss all the teachers and our principal. After all the the time and effort they have put into teaching us I just want to say 'thanks', not just from me but from all of us students at Ruapotaka School. Thanks for spending your time printing out homework and giving us books to read at home to help build our knowledge of the world and reach a higher standard. Here is a movie from all of us. Snag Golf

Last Week Thursday at 9:15 we had Snag Golf.

When we got there we had to say 'good morning' to the coach. Once that was done he told us what we were going to be doing. We had to get into teams of three, then we could start. The aim of our first game was to try and get the ball onto the number 3. When it was on the number three we had to say "Snag Golf". Playing snag golf was really fun, I can't wait for next week.

Buddy Reading

For the past two weeks from 2:30 to 2:45 we have been going to Room 7 for buddy reading.

Buddy reading is when you go to another class and make them read to you or you read to them. We have all have had one partner or two depending on how many people are here that day. Once we got to Room 7 we had to go pick our buddy then sit down and read with them.  Reading with Room 7 has been a lot of fun.

Being Suitable With Energy

Last Thursday in the afternoon we had a very special visitor who came to talk to us about how to be sustainable with energy.

She works at Vector and we were even luckier to have her come to our school and tell us new things. Her tips and advice on how to stay sustainable with energy were very useful. She gave out some stickers to the people who answered her questions. She also showed us a solar powered car and helicopter and how it works. At the end she gave us all a book full of fun activities and ways to be suitable with energy and a pencil. We learnt a lot from her.

Rom 12s Syndicate Assembly

On Monday afternoon we had to host the senior syndicate assembly.

We had to make it thirty minutes long. But before we could practice we had to plan what we were going to do. We had two days to think and plan. On our first day we were put into two groups, we all had to memorize what we were going to say. When morning tea was over we had our first practice. We had to sit in the order we were talking in. After that it was our real assembly. We had to speak loud and clear. It was fun hosting our senior syndicate assembly. 

Softball Team

Yesterday we went to Dunkirk to play softball. The people who were in our team were Sophie, Maranatha, Heilala, Suliasi, Quros, Sione, Timote, Mele, Min Zin, Mika, Samuel and I. We all tried our best. There were nine other schools there. We played against 5 other schools. They were Glenbrae, St Patrick's, Sylvia Park Maroon and Pt England Black. We lost two games and won 2 but on our last game  was a draw against Panmure Bridge. We all tried out best and worked very hard. Well Done!  

Our First Day Back At School

After a very long boring holiday we started school today, YAY!

But something has changed we are all in new classes which means new teachers and new classmates.  Walking into a new classroom felt weird but I knew I had to get use to it. All I could think about was how cool it was to be in a new class. Sadly some of the year eights were still in Room 11 with the year sevens. This is my last year in intermediate and also at this school. I am looking forward to college. 

Looking Forward To Cultural Groups

This term the thing that I am looking forward to is Cultural Groups. This year I will be participating in the Tongan group. We will start practicing a dance to perform to our school and our families. I am looking forward to Cultural Groups because we get to dance on stage with friends andbecause we will make our families proud.

Blood On The Horizon

Blood Moon on the Horizon

A Blood moon known as a ‘tetrad’ will take place on September 28th, which is just the fourth lunar eclipse in two years.

The rare event will make the moon look up to 14% larger because it is as close to the earth than it will ever be in its elliptical orbit. However there is a chance that the eclipse won’t be visible from New Zealand and as always viewing always depends on weather conditions.

So why will the moon be a ‘blood’ red colour? When the earth eclipses a full moon the direct sunlight is blocked, but the sun's rays still light up the moon. However this light has already travelled through the Earth's atmosphere first, and hence causing the totally eclipsed moon to look red or brownish.
